This is why Menards online ordering is a scam...

WOW, that is unbelievable. Next time you're at Menards, you should show that to a Manager. I wonder if they know about it.

Yeah, Menard's knows about it. Like I said, I sent them a complaint about this issue over a year ago, and they responded by tacking on a new processing fee to their orders.

As far as store managers, at my local Menard's store, checkout people last only a few months and they are gone, "Managers" are typically gone in less than a year.

I used to work in shipping. I know moving product from point A to B can be very expensive. But if we'd tried that trick on a customer, there would have been so much negative feedback. Menards can get away with it because they are ... Menards.:tongue

The biggest competition to Menards, for the stuff I buy, is probably Amazon. Amazon could not survive with ship to home fees like that.

How heavy would that box be? Many shipping charges are based on weight.

It's a 7 pound box measuring 5X9X16 inches.

Did you put your actual address or at least your zip code in to get it correct estimate for the shipping cost?

Absolutely. I have an account with Menards with my address and credit card info. I buy lots of stuff at Menards, usually in store. I do take advantage of their special online flash sales when they have free shipping to store, but I have never had anything sent directly to my home from Menards because of the high cost of shipping they tack on.

 Before we got our local Harbor Freight store last year, I used to order stuff online from them. No matter how much you ordered, there was a flat fee of $6.95 to ship to home. That was a good deal for me, at that time, because the nearest HF store was 120 miles away.

Can you clear your browser's history and cache, reboot your device, then go back and try to place the same order to see what the shipping cost is this second time?

A set of 4 wheels at Menards was about $15.00 less than Home Depot. However, Home Depot had free ship to store whereas Menard's wanted to charge something like $30.00 to ship to store - and even more to ship to home. So, Menard's lost out on the sale of their lower priced item because of their high shipping costs.

Maybe it's just my age, but I thought stores should sell stuff without having to tack on additional processing fees. AFIK, Home Depot does not pull that stunt for their online orders.

I have seen a similar pattern in some other places too. One place will offer a "cheaper" price but then tack on fees, while another place skips the fees and just charges more for the item.

As a customer, the obvious thing is to compare the actual price to get the item, no matter whether the difference is in fees, shipping, or the listed price of the item. Yes, I agree it is a lot of bother. I complain every time I do it.

For a business, they obviously make a choice one way or another: whether to list the item with a lower price (which is attractive to customers) and then tack on fees (which may drive away those same customers), or whether to list the item with a higher price but then not add the other fees (so the customers do not feel mis-led or betrayed.) I have no idea which way works out better for the store. It may even differ depending on who they are selling to.

Is that your ship to home cost, or ship to store cost? I see you live in Houston, TX, a large metro area. I live in small town northern Minnesota.

:caf OK. I think I saw the disconnect on my part. Somehow I had checked the Local Delivery option. Now that I see there is a separate option for ship to home, it would look like this....

:lau I gather someone from the store is worth $115.00 to drive the package out 7 miles to my house. No thanks on that option.

Anyways, that $8.81 ship to home is more in line with what I would expect than that $115.00 "Local Delivery" fee which I had thought was shipping costs to my house. But I see that they doubled the processing fee to ship it to home. Interesting... 🤔

Thanks for the response. I edited my original post with my error in the Local Delivery option I had selected whereas I should have checked the last option which was ship to home.

Thanks.
I need something was not correct and I wasn't convinced the store was trying to scam.

There is still time to edit the previous posts.

I have no connection to Menards. I don't even shop there very often as they are not close enough. I just want to promote as many shopping options as possible, especially those that might be local.

Thanks. I already went back and edited my original post.

Absolutely. As I stated, I buy lots of stuff at Menards. I think where I got confused is that Home Depot offers shipping to the store, or shipping to your house, but not a "Local Delivery" option to your house like Menards. I just wanted to know how much it would cost to have the item on my doorstep.

To be fair to Menards, and to inform anyone else that might look at this thread, I updated and edited the original post.

Thanks for all the responses. I guess I have to say that the "Local Delivery" option is pretty expensive and make sure you look at the final price before you hit submit.
