Thistlewick Smallholding - Chickens (for now)

Pics
Okay more weirdness in my hen house;

Found 2 eggs in the brooder pen. Now... The "doors" to the brooder pen aren't supposed to let any full size chickens in... But maybe I didn't make the door small enough...

This is custards egg on the left, with the extra calcium bits she likes to leave... Harriets egg in the middle (cream legbar)

And the two above and below in the photo I found in the brooder pen lol

My husband thinks they are Harriets eggs. But they are white.

The girl duckling (Spitfire) is 10 weeks old. Too young. All my teen chicks are 8 weeks and under. Too young.

So. Harriet? Custard? Lol

Crazyness!!

Gotta love a fun egg mystery. Is Custard your only hen that lays white or cream?

Well custard is a little bit of an anomaly, she lays weird eggs, they started out grey. They don't have great bloom. They always have a bunch of calcium.

I had no plans to use her eggs for breeding as much as she's a darling, bc of these odd things with her eggs.

But yeah they are sometimes grey/white

The closest egg layer to her is Harriet, cream legbar who lays a very very pale blue.

Gotcha. My vote is on Custard. I don't think it would be a CCL because the inside of their shell is blue. So a blue egg layer (even one that lays a very light blue) would still be blue on the inside.

Okay so those eggs weren't white

I thought they were but look!

That's on a sheet of white printer paper.

Harriets egg on the left. Custard on the right.

It's been Harriet laying in the brooder pen. Lol. I guess the second door I made wasn't small enough 🤣🤣

I've been collecting eggs since Thursday for hatching

Today is day 4 of collecting. I should set them tomorrow yeah? I've got a wine fridge and been able to keep them at 55 degrees

But even so I've read that 3+ days is way less chance of success.

I need to take them out and let them come to room temp.before setting.
