My 10-week-old pullet has a crack on the tip of her beak. Is this severe enough to require medical attention or is it okay to let it work itself out? If it does require attention, what should I do? I'm a first-time chicken mama so this is totally new to me.

There is an article on here somewhere I have been trying to find for you but cant, It has a video on trimming a cracked beak like that. It may have been on YouTube. From what I remember you clip it with fingernail clippers but try not to get to close to the quick.

That part of my buff silkies broke off too and he seems to be eating and drinking fine. Definatly has not stopped him:wee

Ill keep looking.........

If it was me I would just leave it...it doesn't look like it will effect how she eats...and then once it grows out long enough I where the crack is closer in length to the bottom part of beak...then I would trim.

A dab of super glue control gel and tiny bit of tissue applied like a bandaid will repair the crack. You don't want to trim too short and hit the quick. There are lots of tiny little nerves and it can cause bleeding and further damage. One it grows out you can safely trim it down. Very pretty bird!

Agreed. The broken portion will likely fall off in a few days.

What you want to do is look around and try to figure out how this happened so you can prevent it if possible. Chicks can get beaks hung in wire if they are picking at treats/fingers or something on the outside. Water and feed stations can also have edges that a chicken can get their beak hung in.
