Topic of the Week - Keeping Water from Freezing

I wonder if the brand of heated bucket matters. We did want to get the larger 3-gallon ones, but these 2-gallon ones seemed more robust. We've had one through two winters and bought two more that have been through one. They are shielded from the windchill; the lowest temp last winter was -18F.

These are the ones we bought and have no issues with other than a thin layer of ice floating on top two winters ago.

This one has worked for us ... it's about to go into its 3rd 4th winter. For extended cold spells, I like to use a regular water bucket that I'll change out a couple times a day and make sure all is good.

Looks like a great idea but my only drawback with these is it says on the product specs: "Note: Using an extension cord with this bucket is NOT recommended."
and I have to use an extension cord to reach the outlet.
I have mine on an extension cord. I have an outdoor extension cord and before I had a solid roof in part of my run I had the connection wrapped with an all weather protector.

Sometimes you can only do what you can do.
