Recently in acquired 7 peacock eggs and hatched them. 4 hatched and they were all male. They are black shoulders. If I wanted to trade for females these are only 6 months old. Would a bird for bird trade be fair, I was under the impression males were worth more. I know I don’t need 4 males and I would like some peahens.

Hens are more valuable as they tend to get killed while free ranging and setting nests. A cock can handle four hens easily so that also increases their value. If you could get a two for one trade it would be fair. My answer is figuring IB but know that other colors or patterns can change the value as well.

Thank you! I was okay with a bird for bird trade, my husband just wanted me to check to be sure it was fair.

Males can be worth more in certain areas where their beautiful tails are prized:bow, but peahens are your only shot at breeding. Peahens are usually worth more for anyone who breeds peafowl because though the gender of eggs should be 50-50, more hens are needed than males if you want to breed at all. Keeping more males than females can result in fighting between the males and harassment of the hens so it's usually avoided. In MN, it is rare to find anyone selling peahens but the cocks are usually very cheap. It depends on the area and the person you are dealing with whether or not they will accept a male for female trade. Because they are black shoulders, trading one of them for a normal India Blue hen should work. Keeping more males than females can result in fighting between the males and harassment of the hens. A two for one trade would be good, but you would still have two cocks to one hen, so I would suggest acquiring a few more hens after that or asking about a 3 for 2 trade if for some reason another person wants more males.

it would be a trade of 2 of my males for 2 of his hens. Then i would have 2 cocks and 2 hens.
