There isn't a lot of difference between the rent a coop grandpa knock off feeder and the real Grandpa feeder other than price. If you look around online there is a review site that has done reviews on both and they compare the knock off to the real thing. Google something like chicken feeder reviews or treadle feeder reviews and it ought to pop up.

In my opinion they had the chance to fix the problems with the grandpa feeder and didn't, perhaps worried that people would prefer a copy and shy away from a feeder that was a bit different. Amazon reviews is a great place to check too. All feeders will have a few bad reviews from people without the skills or patience to assemble the feeder or those that refuse to follow the directions for assembling, installation, or training. But when you get over 10% negative reviews it is not a good sign.

And another point, is this a good time to continue doing business with companies that have outsourced manufacturing to China? We rightfully ought to be bashing our businesses and governments for allowing all this manufacturing to flee the U.S. to the point that you can't make a freaking safety dust mask without ordering the supplies from China much less our medicines being made over there or from chemicals and products made in China. At least the Grandpa might still be made outside of China, at least I think it comes from NZ or Australia.

Here is a link to a website that reviews treadle feeders! I am having my first flock of 23 chicks delivered the week of June 1 so I will need to figure out feeder options soon also. I have some little chick 🐣 feeders but they will grow out of them quickly. If you do a search there are more review pages. I searched “treadle feeder reviews.”

I use Grandpa’s Feeders with my girls and they work fine. Other than being noisy when they close, the girls haven’t had any issues, even as very young pullets. I have eight hens and two feeders. The feeders are (at the moment) right next to each other.

I have sand in my coop and run, so I put down a couple of 16” by 16” ceramic tiles to keep the feeders level. Oh, and I got both of my feeders at half price by emailing Grandpa to ask if they had any “scratch and dent” models stashed in the back of the warehouse. They did and both arrived in their original packaging with no scratches or dents. 👍🏻👍🏻
