Since so many people suggested using Sand in the run we thought we would give it a whirl. We spent half a day looking for just the right Sand. We spread it out in the run thinking it looked so nice and the birds are going to love it....NOT what happened. They freaked out as soon as they touched it and would only stand in an area that still had some hay on it. They were squawking and flying around trying anything to get out of the run. They got so stressed out we probably won't get eggs for a week!!

Anyone else have this experience?

Someone posted about putting fallen leaves in the run, so I tried that. The chickens were delighted. I threw some grit and worms into the leaves, and the chickens has a great time! Plus, it looks good.
