So, I "rescued" these two Turken girls from a Rural King chick bin. They were the only two chicks left in the entire building. I couldn't leave them! Plus, one of them, Splat, had a severe case of pasty butt. It was a giant cap of dried poo encasing her whole backside. It was bad. So, I took them home.
My question is, what breeds do you all think they are? It doesn't really matter, but Chickadee's feather patterns are turning out to be really cool looking. I'm just curious! Splat is all black except for a white feather on each wing that im sure she will lose with her next molt. Splat is also noticeably bigger and heavier than Chickadee.
Here they are roosting and looking like a couple of vultures. :p

Thank you for playing this game with me! :D

Turken is the breed.. they are likely from a mixed color flock rather than individual colored flocks. Unfortunately, many hatcheries are using mixed colored flocks.

I can't make out Splats' whole neck, but chickadee has what's known as a bow tie.
I thought Turken was the type, like a frizzle, because I know that a Turken bred with any other breed will produce Turkens. I think I'm saying that right. Like, you can have a Silkie Turken which is what a Show Girl is.
And Splat's neck is just like Chickadee's, only all black. She's done with photo time today. ;)
When you said "mixed color flock" do you mean like a barnyard mix?

No some breeds come is a variety of colors. It means they're likely pure Turken (or Naked Necks) just not separated by color.

No. Naked neck is the breed, but some hatcheries say Turken because it sounds like it has turkey in it. The naked neck gene is dominant, which is why other breeds can get that look, but it doesn't make them an actual member of the naked neck breed

Turken is a breed and nacked neck would be a gene or type. The naked neck gene will pass on to other birds and is incomplete dominant.. which produces the bow tie according to my current understanding.

By mixed color flock.. I mean all Turkens but of different colors varieties like black, buff, red, white, etc. ran together in the same pen.

Probably because turkeys have bald necks, so they kinda resemble a turkey in that regard.

Ahh... gotcha. Thank you. So, both Splay and Chickadee have the incomplete dominant gene because they both have the bow tie. That all makes sense, I appreciate the information. I did very little research on these guys before I got them, which rarely happens. I was never really interested in adding them to my flock, I just couldn't leave the babies like they were. I'm experienced at fixing pasty butt, and looking at Splat like she was... well, I couldn't help myself and had to "save" her. She's grown up nicely.
So, if one of these girls is bred with say, a Cochin roo, will the result be a Cochin naked neck? That'd be an odd combination.

Ok, I thought Naked Neck and Turken were the same thing. Let me make sure I understand this properly so I don't confuse others in the future.
A pure Naked Neck is not a Turken, but a chicken crossed with a Naked Neck is called a (breed)/Turken such as a Silke/Turken . . . ?

Naked Neck is the official breed name recognized by the APA. I believe the gene is also referred to as such… Turken would be a nickname for the breed and what hatcheries often call them :)
