We purchased a resin 8ftX71/2ftX8ft shed from Lowe's (http://tinyurl.com/3zhnub4) with the idea of turning it into a chicken coop. We own two Australorps (Bob and Henrietta) and have a chicken rabbit hutch which is not meeting their (or our) needs.
This is a picture of my husband laying out a base to get the coop off of the ground. The man at Lowe's recommended this, and the directions give exact dimensions and what to buy (which my husband discovered AFTER measuring everything.
Here is a picture of the coop floor. We put it together and placed on the base. Assembling the base requires two people and is a tiny bit tricky. We ended up standing the pieces upright after getting them partially snapped together.
Husband is out now with my younger son getting plywood, more cement blocks, and more 2X4s to complete the base.
Here's Bob
and Henrietta
We hope to purchase more Australorp hens once the building is finished.
