I have just planted my winter garden & it is up about 1 inch. I have 2 kinds of turips, 2 kinds of mustard greens & Georgia collards . Looks like about 1/2 acre or more I planted . I sell the greens to my customers that come up to the kennel every day. I pick fresh every morning to sell. is it OK or will my hens eat the greens ? I will have LOADS OF THEM!! MMMmmmThey are good for me to eat might be great green feed for chickens in the winter??

The question is, how much of them do you want them to eat? If the answer is none, unless I give them the snack, then you need to fence it off, cover it over, like you do with rabbits, gophers, etc. Otherwise, you have planted the world's best smorgassboard. Then all your chickens will be rolling and waddling around.

I just found out my hen LOVES turnip greens! I never thought about giving her greens but took some in the other day to see what she would do. She tore them up. I hope they're not bad for her cause its her new treat!

oh! mine love 7 top turnip greens. I pull them up when they are only about 5 inch. tall. They eat the whole thing. I planted a row next to the run so i can pull them when i feed them for treats. jean

I thought the OP was hoping the birds wouldn't get to the greens.
In any case, my birds like collards - they don't love them.
I will toss a 10 big leaves in there at night, and they eat them down to the vein by the next afternoon.

I planted some for my chickens and goats and they all love them. Now I've planted some red top clover for winter. I'm for anything that I can feed them that keeps me from having to buy so much feed.

I give my birds treats of scratch, (oats, unhulled sunflower seeds, once in awhile bird seed, cracked corn etc.), in small quanities as these are treats. I also give them vegies, fruits, most everything that I can grow including all kinds of greens. I do grow a lot of corn and watermelon especially, also tomatoes, squash, root crops, the list can go on. I feed them everything except potatoes. I figure they will eat what they want. I do free range them. I have never had a problem with their egg production. Here is the link to BYC Chicken Treat Chart. https://www.backyardchickens.com/web/viewblog.php?id=2593-Treats_Chart
