Twisted Tibia Treatment

Hi guys!

I have a teen chick with a twisted tibia that goes pretty far out to the left. I've heard of braces and things to help fix it and I've tried just about everything I've found on the web but the internet isn't helping anymore.

I was wondering if anyone knows how to make a leg brace that will keep her leg rotated in? I've tried multiple websites but none of them have clear instructions.

With all of the reading on leg bone deformities, I know of no cure or fixing of a twisted leg or tibia. Do you have any pictures of the chick?

There may be some techniques to treat a slipped tendon, but not a leg bone deformity. Here are some articles on twisted tibia, varus and valgus deformities:

That might be valgus deformity left leg, but a twisted tibia is probably more likely. The third link above has some good pictures of grown chickens with valgus. Many of these chickens get along well enough to survive with their disability, but some do become lame. We had a local school make an artifical limb with a 3 D printer for a chick with a crippled leg—note the little blue “leg” in the picture:

Thank you for your help. I will keep an eye on her and make sure she always has enough food and water but I’m not sure what else I can do after reading those articles.

I didn’t even think of using a 3D printer. We own one but I’m not sure what good it would do if I don’t have a design for a brace.

Its just helpful hearing back from someone. I’ll keep trying but it sounds like I can still help her have a good life sans two straight legs.

@lovemyladies what was the outcome of this? I have a little chicken with a twisted leg too. I’m trying the twisted tibia treatment of tying her legs together over night each night, not holding out too much hope but she doesn’t hate it so I’m keeping at it for now.
