Back in April, I scooped up a few different polish chicks from the TSC bin. I ended up with 2 white crested black pullets, 1 silver laced pullet, and this monster of a silver laced cockerel. Ike is a gorgeous boy, but I have noticed that his comb is just a mess. I've looked online for pictures of polish roosters and nothing comes even close to the comb explosion that he has. Has anyone seen anything like this before? Is this common from "lower quality" polish? Would this be a red flag, if breeding? What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Has anyone seen anything like this before?
Looks like a buttercup comb... Possible accidental cross?? Or could be a ridiculous amount of comb sprigs but I don't think so. Maybe it's also possible that there were other crossings early on to make the Polish breed and this is one of the ancestors traits popping out generations later???

100% it would be more than a red flag if breeding it would be a cull... for ME, if I was breeding to the silver laced Polish SOP. Sometimes we do work with what we've got and start where we are. It's a personal choice and depends heavily on your goals.

Thanks for sharing! :pop

Now that you mention buttercup, I completely agree. It's a messy buttercup, but it has formed VERY similarly.
I went back and looked at a few younger pictures of him and its wild what changes he's gone through, but that comb just continues to grow. Ike has always been Mr. Personality. hahaha!
