*Updated thread with Pics of Baby Dove*

Soo nice... but their feathers are not very nice.... you might want to put the cage in a place that receive sun light at least about one hour a day (after the baby is weaned).... and give them a shallow water bowl... to have a bath..... and improve the feathers appearance.... but when put in the sun they should have a shade space to rest in if it gets too hot....

Ohhhh niceee...... first tine seeing this breed.... as I never kept doves.. only pigeons. ..

the mateing of two silky dove togather is not advisable you wil get what they call porcupine birds that have no feather just quills very ugly and the bird has no protection can not fly

Ohhh.... I didn't know that either...doesn't they suppose to produce solkies like them... or are they produced by crossing specific breeds together?? That's interesting.... I'll run a search... ;) :p

Well, i don't know anything about silky doves. The woman i got them from said that i wouldn't want to breed an offspring with another silky dove as the feathers could get spiky. These are a bonded pair so wouldn't want to break them up. This whole dove escapade started with finding a lone white dove in my backyard, then went looking for a friend for it. In my quest, i also adopted a pair of ringneck doves from craigslist, who i thought were a pair, but no eggs and they started fighting, so now they are in separate cages. If my original white dove i found is a female, then she can pick between the two guys. i just need to finish that aviary in the backyard. Making progress, but it is slow going with a sore shoulder. And i wonder, too, how they originally bred the silky dove, how that feathering got introduced.

I don't know about silkies either. .. but update us with pics about the baby's outcome.

Okay, i love to share pictures! i notice Mom has been spending more time off the baby. i hope that's okay. He only has pin feathers at this point. But looks like he is being fed. Anyhow, here is the baby at 7-days-old.

Don't worry. .. they don't sit often when he get older... he's fine don't worry. .. and growing good. .. what do you feed the parents?
