I have been googling for a Chicken Coop or chicken coop design to house 6-8 chickens, and of course I came across Urban. What I didn't expect, was to get an ad on Facebook for a Chinese distributor selling all of Urban's coops. Urban's got bad reviews and a reputation for cheap materials. Now it's obvious why. They are just a reseller of Chinese made goods. This is not obvious on their website.

Funny, because Urban swears their designs are their own and are "shipped from the USA". 🙄 They really pitch them like they are manufactured with quality in mind.

The markup is ridiculous. Urban sells these coops for $1000-$3000 each. You can actually buy a Singleton, not in bulk, version of this coop from a different distributor, from China for $300.

I know how poor quality these coops are because i am currently in the process of replacing my Urban coop that hasn't lasted a year. It is falling apart and filled with mold.

First off, let me say I'm sorry to hear you experienced this. That sucks and I hate crappy companies. I hope things work out in the end and you have a better coop and get your money back for this piece of junk.

You mean to tell me there's a company that's marketing things suspiciously in order to convince you of something that is not "quite" true. :D :D :D

If this upsets you then you should be upset with every commercial you see on tv, printed on billboards, etc. They are almost all using questionable tactics, depending on what you consider questionable ;)

Been watching and following so I'm gonna put a plug in here for Root & Roost - this is where I purchased my pre-fab coop from. Made in Texas with US sourced cedar. I've personally spoken with the owners several times. My Round Top Loft coop is - yes, was pricey - very high quality, easy to put together, and exactly what I wanted. I received on time and they have been excellent in answering my calls and emails within minutes. I did a TON of research before I made this investment. Such a disappointment to find out what you did.

This isn't about me, it's about folks that are considering buying from this company. Only the omniscient cannot be deceived.

To say "you should have known" it ridiculous. Obviously if they seemed suspicious at the time, I would not have bought. Now they do, because reviews and posts like mine exist to warn and caution people not to make my mistake.

Urban coop has not existed long as a company because the owners keep changing the name. It has had three names so far. The names of the coop models change as well.

At the time I bought my coop no negative reviews existed online for that company.

Thank you but I do not think they are going to refund. I contacted them with my concerns when they first happened. They took no action. I saw the ads this morning and went down a rabbit hole. I really thought I'd bought a good product back then. I hope others do not make the same mistake.

Hopefully my post didn't insinuate that. What I'm saying is companies do this all the time, every day, we're all bombarded with it. We should be upset about it all of the time, not only the times it doesn't work out.

I've bought lots of things online beginning a long time ago. I don't trust any website I don't know, that doesn't have reviews, etc. For instance, I recently needed a valve and Zoro.com had it for $300 cheaper. I had never heard of Zoro so I researched it, found out it's the Amazon of plumbing parts (among other parts), and is legit, so I ordered and have been super happy. However, had there been no reviews, I would have paid the extra $300 and purchased it from Grainger, a place I can trust. Had there been positive reviews on one site, I would not have ordered. I had to find a lot of people posting as well as website recommendations before I even considered it. Still took me more research before buying, lol. Admittedly I'm over the top on this.

It's the company's fault for shady business practices.

Sometimes there's nothing you could have done, if there are no negative reviews, lots of positives, it's easy to be fooled. I know for an absolute fact Amazon has fake reviews posted from legit accounts. I avoid places like that and ignore the personal reviews from most websites. I try to stick to forums like these and actual posters recommendations (and not just one or two posters who could be company reps!!)

This company "Urban Norther Coops" or is it "ChickenCoopsNW" or "MyUrbanFarmers" or WHATEVER alias they go by now is AWFUL. They are scam artists. So scummy, and they know it. I had the experience of canceling my order with them WITHIN ONE HOUR of placing the order, so nothing was processed, no printing label, and they charged me $175 to just cancel. Now you would think they would be nice and polite after I just gave them this amount of money, but no, they were extremely rude and even accused me of making up a story to cancel. In spite of this exorbitant/highwayrobbery fee, it was the cost to NOT do business with them. I would have hated owning any of their shabby products. They posted their ads all over my local Craigslist pages so I am hoping other will see the awful reviews before pulling the trigger.
