5 Tips for Raising Healthy Chickens ...
omg hop she gets better

Your chicken may have fly strike? Soak in salt water (epsom, Celtic) whatever and I used iodine and silver on the wound and pick each larvae out. I’m not saying it’s for sure fly strike but that’s what I did with my baby goose a few weeks ago. It had a wound that was bleeding with TONs of larvae that I tweezed out individually. It can be an emergency if that’s what is it. I hope you can figure it out. Farm animals can be so stressful! Just keep doing everything you can do.

If she’s egg bound- lock her in a dark place. Mine usually never lay in the water when I’m soaking. It takes her a little bit to do after I take her out and put her in a cage with a towel over it to ensure darkness.

If you have amoxicillin on hand, the dose for a chicken is 250mg in the morning and 250mg in the evening, approximately 12 hours apart. This is for seven to ten days.
Thank you for this clear dosage! Question about capsules: Can I just give her a capsule or do I need to do something different with the medication? The capsules I have are 250mg.
TIA

Welcome to BYC, you should be able to give her the capsules as they are. Pull her wattles down gently, pop the pill in her mouth, let go, she will close her beak and swallow. Do give her probiotics in her water or a bit of plain Greek yogurt each day during treatment with antibiotics, though.

Yes, just pop the pill in. Chickens easily swallow pills without needing to do anything special to them.
I was honestly wary about giving my hen a pill for the first time, but it was surprisingly easy!!!! Just grab her head, using one hand open up her beak, and with the other you shove the pill in and push it down there.
