Does anyone see a problem using Kilz as an interior paint? We have a couple gallons from a previous house and would like to use it on the coop project if possible. Will ventilate coop very well before adding poultry (chickens and ducks). Do we need to worry about them pecking at it? Thanks!

Use a primer first. Or are you talking about Kilz primer? If so then sure, it's all you need. If talking about a paint then you need to prime first. A paint on it's own will not hold up to vast temp fluctuations without a primer and eventually scale and flake off.

As for chickens eating paint flecks I don't see a huge concern, dried paint is almost inert and will pass through system. But then again there will be no flakes to eat if you use a primer.

Little fyi,
Right now my wood paneled kitchen is "painted" in Kilz primer, and it flakes off SUPER easy (We had some Kilz around and I was just OVER a dark brown kitchen.). But that flaking might be because the wood was oiled for years (like, 50 years) yearly before we owned it.

But sure....give it a try! If it doesn't work, you can always redo it with something on top of the Kilz. Kilz is basically never a bad idea. :)

Thanks for the tip! In our previous house we used Kilz on walls that were painted. No problem with flaking off, but I will watch for it. It will be painted on raw wood this time. Geez, I wish this coop project was done already! I hope the poultry will appreciate all the hard work! ;)

Ummm. The oiled wood might have something to do with it. :p.

Id still paint over any primer.
