V comb sexing

Here is my little chick, 4 weeks old. It's a weird mix breed.

I've never had a v comb chick before and I don't know how to gauge the gender at 4 weeks.

Alot of my single comb chicks make it obvious early on so I know what I'm looking for but I'm not sure how tall v combs grow, how fast they come in, or to colour etc.

I know 4 weeks is usually too young to tell but sometimes comb growth is obvious, but I don't know if this is alot or hardly anything

I know about it's little cleft eyelid, poor thing hatched like it. It doesn't get infected and can close both inner and outter eyelids so I'm just, excuse the pun, keeping an eye on it for now. I also know about it's little twisty toes, but it walks/runs completely fine.

Awwe thanks! But does it work the same way as normal combs, would redness be a sign (I know it's not 100%) but just wondering thankee

Not sure, but I would think so

@LaFleche You seem to have knowledge of v combs. I'm hoping you've got experience of chicks. Any ideas on what to look for in regards to rooster or hen developments over the next coming weeks? Does this look like a high developing comb? Thanks!

It is still too early to tell, but redness in wattles and comb as well as behaviour will be the signs to look for.

Thanks, glad to know it's similar to other developmental signs in chicks, will keep an eye on the redness. So far it's pale and is a really gentle bird so hoping for a hen!

I've got a similar issue. these are polish cross pekin or barbu duccle. bot looks totally different with odd looking combs. there is a 3rd but he's a deffo he as he has the pekin comb. this is at 4 weeks then 5 1/2 weeks. crazy how quick they grow.

Probably a cockerel if it's that big at that age
