Vaseline on Feet: Roost, Barn, or House?

He must've like the soak.

I hope he improves.

Sounds like you are having some nicer weather, it's warmed up a bit here too, I look forward to maybe seeing 50 tomorrow, that would be wonderful.

Good temps today (lower 50s), so everyone got some outside time today. Did a warm water/epsom salt soak for Poppy and covered him in vaseline, lol.

Updated pics of his feet. I don't think they look better, but he was walking a bit better today, possibly due to it being warmer.

(Yes, part of the chicken ceiling is chicken wire, I'm working to replace it!)

I think they may look a little better. Time will tell if he loses that middle toe. It's good that he's walking better, I'm sure he's enjoying the warmer weather, may flocks sure are.

Wanted to post an update (because I hate it when someone posts about something and then just drops off the map with no resolution). Took this picture today right after about 5 minutes of an epsom salt soak and just before smearing him in vaseline. That middle toe is looking rough, and it looks like the body is in the process of sealing it off to amputate. I think his other toes look a little better? The scales on his leg are very lifted and "loose".

I'll continue to update (for better or worse) until it seems like we've reached a resolution.

(And yes, after I took this picture I did stop the hen from drinking the filthy Epsom salt water).

You're right, the body will wall off that toe, it will take time for it to dry up and fall off on its own, but I think it looks o.k.

The scales lifting and getting loose, those will eventually slough as too, then the legs will look quite bare, there may be a few sores when they slough off, hard to know what will happen.
You've done well and I think you are making progress, just continue as you are, I know it takes time and dedication to do this.

I do appreciate the updates and look forward to the next.

LOL Hens will get into anything, the water probably wouldn't hurt her unless she drank a lot, then it would act like a laxative:D
