So here is my coop currently. I am going to be adding insulation for the cold canadian winter. This will be my first winter with chickens. My question is should I cover my current vents on the left and add vents up near the triangle parts of the roof? I could also put roof vents because I'm adding metal roofing but I don't know if it would vent well against the metal. The roost are removable and sit just under the windows. I'm also planning on covering the windows with clear vapor barrier when it gets really cold.

I live near the Quebec Ontario border about 80km from Ottawa. Last winter we got several days in the minus 30s.

As mentioned you can leave the existing vents, yes add triangle vents on both ends.

You DO NOT need to add insulation, a complete waste of effort and money! If you do so you will likely end up with small critters living in the walls and bringing extra bonuses like mites inside.

The critical requirements for chickens in the winter is ventilation of 1 Sq ft per bird with no drafts striking them while on the roosts. You should be able to achvieve this easily with the current layout.

As long as the window shuts properly you do not need to cover with plastic. Roof vents often get buried in snow so achieve nothing.

Good luck!

I hate t see blocked soffits/eaves on a clod climate coop.
Not sure if you can remove the blocking between the rafters, but it would be a good idea to do so.

Pics of coop from outside?
How and why are you adding metal roofing?
