Virginia

Hello, neighbors!

I have 3 ganders. They are generally pretty happy among their own little flock, but with breeding season right around the corner, I would like to find a few female geese to enhance their lives.

I recalled a local man joking about how he had released a couple of domestic geese at a nearby lake, and how they always saw them there, and then they just disappeared... I thought that was so sad, and it occurred to me to reach out and see if anyone nearby had a goose girl or two in need of a new home. It would have to be a large breed such as a Toulouse or Embden, because my boys are Giant Dewlap Toulouse, and they are really big.

I'm in Central Virginia, and my geese are pretty spoiled. They have a goose house to sleep in, a pen where I can contain them but usually don't, and a farm pond to swim in. If you have a lonely goose, I might be able to help. Send me a message.

Hi fellow Virginians! I was a member about 15 years ago, but left the group when I had to move and could no longer have chickens. I am finally in a space where I can start with them again! I've been checking out the coop pages, and that's been fun. I'll be modifying an existing space into a coop and adding a run in the Spring. I'm ready to get started.
Welcome Back!!

I'm in the Shenandoah Valley and here it is coldest of the cold weather so far and getting even colder this coming week. And, much to my surprise, one of hens started laying again day before yesterday. Got another egg today. The hens are 2 yr old Americanas. They didn't lay last year until Spring.

I’m in the Shenandoah too! Some of my runner ducks just started laying as well🤣

It is unusual to have hens laying at this time of year. Mine are also laying, three of them I think. 3+ year old hens, probably sex links, maybe a Barred Rock.
Sex links I can understand, though they are usually at the end of their laying abilities at around three. Had a sex link who layed 360 days out of 365 from the time she started laying. Unfortunately, by the end of her third year she passed from a prolapse.
