We installed this so-called 'poultry-safe' electric fence and found that to be false advertising.

This afternoon we discovered one of our chicks stuck in the fence and electrocuted.

We had been using it for a while to prevent predators, but now we discover it is more of a danger to the chickens then a preventative to predators. A $100 death trap.

PLEASE DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE WE DID. DO NOT USE 'POULTRY-SAFE' ELECTRIC FENCES TO 'PROTECT' YOUR CHICKENS.

I’m so sorry. I‘ve never used these for the same reason. I feared that this would happen to mine. :hugs :rant :hit

I've always wondered: aren't electric fences electric on both sides? Wouldn't any electric fence harm the chickens as well as predators? I'm so confused how people do this successfully.

Electric fences are meant to deter, not harm. But, as we see, harm can happen. I imagine that if the pullet wasn't tangled/caught in the fence, she would have been fine.

That looks like netting used for larger animals rather than chickens. Is that what you ordered?

I have used this kind of electric netting with my chickens in the past. Younger and smaller chickens try to go through it because the holes are so big. And they stretch and get bigger the more you use the netting which is annoying. I'm pretty sure one of my chickens got its head stuck in it once (I didn't electrify it, though, because I was afraid it would hurt them). We did use this around the garden (electrified) and a deer fawn got tangled in it and the fence had to be cut in order to free the fawn. :(
