I used to think that too. I think it was @aart that explained that this is not always the case. Some hens do poo at the same time as the egg comes out. But your explanation being true, there is still the fact that the egg comes out the same opening as the waste products. Myself, I'll wash the eggs. Can't hurt, might help.Ok, hen anatomy closes the feces area off when an egg is on the way through. The bloom (wetness) that covers a newly expelled egg seals the shell from bacteria once it dries. You could rinse your fingers before you get your toast, lol.
