Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I brought a visitor back inside from the garden. A yellow woolybear caterpillar...

Are you going to keep him?
It crapped on my kitchen countertop, so no. I put him/her back outside. LOL

As of today my chickens have given me 1400 good eggs so far this year. Good girls! That averages out to 5.4 eggs per day from 7, and later on 6 hens. Quite the layers! And that's not counting broken, soft or chicken eaten eggs.

Anyone here eaten wild Washington hawthorn berries? I guess they have lots of nutrients, but the berries on my tree don't have much flavor. They contain lots of pectin and supposedly make good jelly. There are a ton of them on my tree. They are a member of the rose family.

Oh yeah, if you crush the seeds and eat them there's a chemical that converts into cyanide, same as apple seeds. So don't chew the seeds and swallow...

They are mealy and no real flavor. Be careful as they can lower blood pressure, so if you have issues and take meds. I leave them for the birds. They eat them well into December

Thanks for the info. I take no meds and my blood pressure runs a bit higher than the recommended normal range, but not high enough for pharmacy meds. I might go ahead and make some medicinal jelly, to be used sparingly.

It's been used for that purpose. If you have normal BP or mild there usually isn't problems and it could lower it a few points. It can react with the meds, though
