Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Lucky you! I haven't gone out hunting yet, but might this weekend. Chanterelles seem to be plentiful on Facebook marketplace. $5 a pound seems to be the cheapest I've ever seen them. I'll be checking my usual spots.
I'm going eat my lobster mushroom this morning with a side of scrambled eggs. I found it in the same spot I found the chanterelles and a few big, white russula brevipes last fall.

There was one russula brevipes I found yesterday that wasn't affected by the parasitic fungus. It was still white, and I didn't keep it to eat.

ETA: The lobster mushroom was delicious! The flavor reminded me of the morels I'd eat every spring as a kid. The mushroom infused oil added some color to the scrambled eggs.

Bear came by again while we were away for a few days. Chickens and run are 100% fine, but it ignored the dead salmon in the creek to smash up a metal trash can that normally holds the chicken feeder at night (it was empty) and then knocked over the plastic bucket we use for chicken poop collection. Whee.
Yikes! Glad the chickens are okay.

Yesterday, found only one shrimp, and a bunch of prime boletes. Haven't gotten an answer on the ID yet. It's not in my field guide.

I've been removing plants from the garden this morning. All the zinnias and most of the marigolds are in the chicken run, along with all the trimmings from the lemon balm plant.

Nine tomato plants are out, with six more left to pull up. I tossed them onto an open spot in the yard where they can ripen or rot, I don't really care which.

I have enough tomato products preserved to last until next season... sauce, salsa, and 4 full gallon bags of whole tomatoes in the freezer. I might experiment with some of the green tomatoes... green salsa maybe????

Going to try to build a new raised bed today, filled with rocky, well draining soil, and relocate my woody herbs into it... tarragon, oregano, thyme, sage. I'll move the lemon balm somewhere off on its own where it will have to fend for itself, fight the good battle to survive. I don't really need or want it.

Next year's tomato plants are going in where the herbs are now, so I have to move them.
