(((((Hugges)))))Ugh, 2021 ended in the worst way possible. My mother passed away during surgery (mitral valve replacement) because, at 69.5, no one had ever detected the amount of heart damage she had sustained as a child from Rheumatic Fever (likely such a mild case that they just assumed it was "just strep throat, it's a secondary infection common with strep and scarlet fever...but the surgeon told me it was something that isn't something I would need to worry about as a 41 year old). Valve replacement went extremely, but they had to take it out to reach the damage that was found when they tried taking her off the heart-lung machine. They replaced it 3 times before they finally "gave up" (per her medical directive). Days are slowly getting better, very slow process. I've been going with my daughter to see her therapist once a week...she's still super shy because it's a new therapist, so having me there to "translate" her silence has been helpful.
On to the good news though! My scissor beak, Shadow, was in the nest box today for the FIRST time! No egg yet, but her vent was working hard....maybe this week? The gals are 41 weeks old this week...finally got her nutrition figured out. Her upper beak was really curving and I was researching options on trimming it, but she broke the curved tip off the other day, clean break, very lucky.
This is such a quiet thread these day. Meanwhile the old night crew cheif is back, and I now live east of Toledo WA. I currently have 9 savuvy hens. And an empty incubator.
Uhhh oh my goodness what a tiny floofster!Welcome back and yes it has been lately. Yesterday came home with this little one.
