Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I have been keeping my coops from others. There is one gal
here that has mericks in her property here in town.

Marek's disease is airborne. Wild birds flying over can bring it. It's pretty much everywhere. Silkies are super susceptible to it. I was vaccinating on hatch for years and years after I had it kill a bunch of birds. Burned the coop and moved where silkies were.

None of the ameraucana or EEs got it as they are a resistant breed. Quite a few of my silkies now have some ameraucana in them which will hopefully help protect them.

Well, the little leghorn is still with us. Her name is Flopsy by the way. Since she seems to have a will to live and is acting as normally as possible considering it's hard to get around, we decided to start draining her ascites today. We don't want to take too much out at once and put her body in shock, so it may take a few days. But, 40 mil liquid came out today. If she seemed miserable, I wouldn't do this, but she doesn't. She's eating, drinking and hanging out with the flock. Not sure if it's the right thing to do. :idunno
