Water Sealer/Proofer for coop

I'm guessing you recognize the design.

It works great, but it's so pretty that I'm afraid to let the chickens use it. Did you use any sealers/ stains/ protectors on yours?

The reptile is a family joke because of all my lizards over the years. My parents even cared for my 6' iguana when we took the kids to FL.

It really is a work of art. Much nicer than the original. I used Okon WeatherPro wood sealer, which was recommended for my climate. I would suggest a marine grade polyurethane, but apply only to the outside areas and avoid getting it on the inside parts where the feed touches. Once it dries it's fairly inert stuff and it will really help protect the wood to make it last longer.

How did your wood preservative work out? My dad built an amazing feeder. Like, you, I'm looking for something chicken safe to apply to the exterior. (My mom & sister did the wood-burn artwork, so I really want to protect it.)
The sealer that I used worked great. I don't think it will work for what I think you want to do. This sealer causes the wood to turn silver/gray like cedar does as it ages. This is also absorbed by the wood and does not cover the surface. Sorry fir the delay in responding.
