How much water does a chicken drink in average to base on what size waterer I should use

I use pots, buckets, plastic containers, and anything else that’ll hold water, dumped cleaned and refilled every week or two. How many birds are you watering?

For 12 chickens I keep about 5 gallon waterers, some of which are changed out daily, depending on which ones they use. I think very fresh water is a must, so I wouldn't necessarily go for the biggest bucket of water you can find.

It depends on how many birds ya got, age, breed type and what kind of weather you might be having. Even drinker type can effect consumption. Looks like 1/2 liter (about a 1/2 quart) during cool weather and around 1 liter during warm weather per bird...

My 15 birds are currently drinking just under a 1/2 gallon a day....when there is not snow on the ground.

I have 3.5 dozen birds and 2, 8-gallon double-walled waterers that last about 8 days assuming the chickens go out to free range. When they stay in because of the weather--:"Yuk, snow!"--it'll last about 4 days.
