We got goats, Nigerian Dwarf Goats to be exact :-)

Yep when they are dehorned you can see right into the sinus cavity and you have to keep it covered till it closes up and its not a good idea to do it during fly season...I disbud mine when they are just a few days old...

I always disbudded my baby Nigerians and if it is done correctly the horns do not grow at all and once healed, the area where the horns should be is simply covered with hair. I can imagine that de-horning a goat would be an awful procedure.

i am so glad we found someone close by and could see how she cared for her goats. she has like 50 and knows all of them by name. she loves them you can tell and she wants who ever gets her goats to make sure you can know all you can. we had already bought a book storey's guide to raising milking goats and did reasearch online and talked to tammy the lady we bought them from to get all the info we can. she has even called and checked on several times since we bought them in the middle of august.

silkieloverz123- Great pics. We are also thinking of getting a couple of goats. I would like one to milk and the other a wether to keep her company. Do you milk any of yours? I read that the dwarf goats are harder to milk? They are adorable and we are just trying to find one that would be best for us. Just the two of us now but would like to make cheese, yogurt and soap.
Thanks

Congrats Wendy. Beautiful goats.

Aww... they're pretty! What are their names? Goats are such fun. And that would be great if their preggers; kidding is just an amazing process. The kids are so adorable. You will love seeing them hop and skip and leap everywhere.

We arent milking them yet because, they are still and have not been pregnant so they dont produce milk yet. We have one wether and he is so sweet, idk if thats because he is a wether or because he is a la mancha but he is the only la mancha we have!

Look at those beautiful eyes, he is such a sweetheart!

Nigerian Dwarves are not harder to milk if you get a doe that comes from good milking lines. When they come from good milking lines, their teats are big and plump. Nigerians who have been bred not focusing on milk can have tiny little mouse teats.

Ok Thanks. good to know. When we start looking we will look for that. I love the smaller ones. They are so adorable. I especially love the blue eyes. Now we are thinking about getting a couple of sisters and breeding them alternatively so we always have a supply of milk.We are in Ontario. Any connections here that anyone knows of?
thanks
