Weighing eggs?

Thanks for all the information, glad you're getting the book. I'll let you know what happens - starting lockdown now (Wednesday morning in the UK). Do you change the temperature for lockdown, or just the humidity?

Hi, thanks for asking! Yes... day 20 started at about 5pm yesterday and when I got up this morning, I could hear some quiet cheeping before I even looked in the incubator! I was so glad! One had hatched and another had pipped. Since then two more have hatched, but the one that had pipped by morning is making quite slow progress, so we're a little concerned about that one, but keeping the incubator closed and just watching!
We had a mix of white and brown eggs and so far all the eggs that have pipped and hatched have been the white ones (White Star or White Star Buff crosses). I don't know if that's chance or if those would be likely to hatch sooner.
I'll let you know of further progress!

Congrats on your fluffy babies, with hopes of more to come.

If the one egg that has piped is slow, that is fine, they can sit there for up to 24 hours to get up the strength to make a break for it. When they start to zip that usually is done in 2 hours or less.

As for the white eggs hatching first, that I have found with ours that one breed hatched out sooner then the others.

So awesome to watch them hatching, what a struggle it is for them to come into this world!!

Thanks, I think it's more than a pip - we have seen its beak, but more of its feet! Could it be in an odd position? Still leaving the lid on! It is amazing seeing them hatch.

Here is a picture of three of our chicks! We are not sure what kind they are. They hatched out of white eggs, and the person we got them from mentioned White Star and Buff. They also keep marans... so we're not really sure, but we're glad to have some healthy little chicks anyway.
