I made a wet bulb thermometer for the first time. I know that the evaporation of the water is supposed to cool down the bulb. I have a wet/dry bulb chart too. I made it using a shoelace. I put one end around the bulb and the other in the water. I put 2 dry bulb thermometers and 2 humidity gauges in my incubator to check its accuracy. My dry bulb reads 99.8 and my wet bulb ALSO reads 99.8. My humidity gauges say that its 40% humidity, so shouldn't the wet bulb read close to 77 or 78??? Did I make my wet bulb thermometer wrong???

Thanks

PLEASE HELP!! my eggs arrive in a week and i need to get my incubator going!!

its a forced air incubator and the thermometer is digital, but ive seen people use digital ones to make wet bulbs before. the lace is COMPLETELY over the end of the wire where the outdoor temperature reads

I haven't tried it with a digital thermo, I have two GQF dial thermos and they work fine for wet and dry. Is the shoe string made of cotton? Did you wet the entire string before putting it on the thermo?

yeah, i wet it and then tied it around the bulb. maybe it just dosnt work with digitals?? i looked EVERYWHERE for just a regular bulb, but no one sells them anymore!!

oh, it matters what the string is made out of?? i didnt know that. i just bought a shoelace from a local store.

go to the store and get you a couple of instant read dial meat cooking thermmmeters. same deal. I just check the rack to get 2 that read the same in the store. I would not be with out mine. I just don't trust digital therm or hygrometer.Wet the shoelace before insertinh the stem of the thermometer, and keep the end in water. The strings do get deposits on them and need to be replaced.
