What’s the deal with you chicken people??

Yeah I’ve been reading and YouTubing just to prepare for winter. And I THINK if I’ve got the coop ventilated but no major drafts, frostbite should be less of a worry. Right?
I mean it’s the cold wind that’s the problem? Here it averages 30 degrees ish, but occasionally drop pretty dang low.

I’d be concerned about the execution..how on earth would I get them on the chickens?? Don’t worry no chickens clothes. I haven’t crossed over into THAT crazy, and I have full faith that y'all will most definitely stop me. Buuuut what about frostbiten combs? No hats either?
I strap a covid mask over big guy's wattles with a soft new aloe sock tucked in there to keep heat. For the comb, hats hats hats!

Right. And you are somewhere in the South I think so I suspect you don’t get super cold spells.
I am in NJ in zone 6 (if you are a gardener that will mean something to you) and I don’t really worry about frostbite.

Zone 7 here. I am indeed a gardener!
Yeah. Wouldn’t worry about frostbite. Worry instead about what yummy shrubs you can plant for them. I planted honey berries and I think next year they may be mature enough to fruit. I am thinking the chickens are going to live sheltering under them and gobbling them up!

I LOVE honey berries! Funny story: I’ve got regular honeysuckle growing here. One particularly large bush, my girls love to sit under and peck at the blossoms. Well unbeknownst to my girls, mocking birds had (and still have) a nest inside the bush. Those parent mocking birds jumped out screaming and scared my poor girls into a tizzy. They were tripping all over themselves trying to get back to the coop.
