What’s Wrong with my Chicken? Wheezing

my chicken all of a sudden started wheezing. She’s only breathing with her mouth open and is clearly struggling to breathe. She’s not even a year old. This started very suddenly. I put her in the garage in a small pen away from the flock, what is wrong with her? What else should I do?

Have you pried open her beak and looked inside? Chickens have been known to pick up a string or even a human hair and get it wrapped around their tongue. They can get something part way caught in their airway. There are diseases that cause gunk to form in the throat, making breathing difficult.

She unfortunately died overnight. Not sure what I could have done. The rest of the flock seems fine.
