What am I doing wrong? Please help!

I just got chicks. Like 30 minutes ago. They don’t seem to be to interested in the water or food. They are in a corner. Some laying down some with eyes closed and head down. Are they just tired? Am I doing something very very wrong? Please help me!

Did you pick each one up and dip their beaks in the water? Once their beaks are wet, dip them in the feed. You have to teach them. Do that and report back.

Also get a thermometer reading of the floor of your brooder at both ends. There should be a warm area and a cooler area. If the warm area is over 90°, raise your lamp a bit. Aim it a little sideways so the far end is cooler. They look a little hot to me, they are as far from the lamp as they can get.

They didn’t seem to care about the food but they drank the water. But they didn’t go back to get more

Ok I checked and the cooler end is around 78-82 and the warmer is about 88-94

Do not panic yet- like you said you only just got them home. Let them sleep for a while. They are probably exhausted.

What type of crumble is that? It looks kind of big.

It says chick crumble. Should I grind them up a little more on my own?

Maybe it is just the moment the picture was taken, but chicks on the edge of the brooder means they are to hot. Try raising the light to see if they come back under it.

I tired raising it and they came back. They still don’t have much interest in food & water still

I'd check on them in an hour or 2. Let them settle for a bit. It's normal for such young chicks to not be that interested in eating for a bit, they should be eating in a few hours
