What are game fowl and what are they used for?

I just got some game fowl mixed eggs and I got 2 game fowl eggs in a trade of mixed eggs. Are they a type of bantam or are they a breed unto themselves. I looked them up and did not find much except every site said the following not intended fro fighting. Are these fighting birds if so what do I do now. Please let me get this straight. Certain things we cannot discuss on the site. Fighting is on of them. I will say games have been used for that purpose but don't have to be used for that purpose. If you don't keep multiple roos they can be decent birds. On Edit There are old english games and there are old english game bantams as well. If they are bantams your eggs will be small.

game birds are the BEGINNING of regular chickens,, they were NOT bred for fighting,,,, people that think that also think all pit bull dogs are bred and used for the same thing

all these breeds of chickens,, rirs, bo,s ALL started from the jungle fowl,,, which is a game.
they are raised for show, egg production, broodiness, and almost as good as guineas at bug eating. they are some of the gentlest birds i own.

Thanks a lot for the infomation, why then are members on here selling them and putting them in with trades. That does not seem right to me. I am going to make scrambled eggs this morning and will make sure this does not happen to me in the future.
I have not been doing this long and started raising what I remember that was on friends and families farms. I want nice docile birds. Thanks again for the information.

There are lots of chickens that can be defined as game fowl. Cornish game, old english game, modern game etc etc. They come as bantams and large fowl. It's sort of the same as saying you just bought a 'hunting dog'.....it could be any breed.

Game chickens can be used in all the same ways as regular chickens and depending on their breeding and background may be more or less aggressive than other breeds. I have old english game and modern game bantams and think they are fabulous! The modern bantams are the most personable bantams I've ever owned.

Just because they are 'game' birds does not automatically mean they are from fighting stock. You will see many variety of game birds at shows and in 4H...they're pretty much just a chicken like any other chicken.

My red jungle fowl roo is the best rooster I have on the property. He is smart, knows how to be a roo, takes care of his hens and he is the ruler of the free range chickens.

He calls all the chickens and the guinea fowl in for the night and they listen to him. He circles all the buildings to make sure everyone is in the barn and when he is done he goes to roost with his hens for the night.

I can pick him up ANYTIME I wish to. He is gentle and appreciative.

I'm not trying to start any arguing. I raised Chow Chows for 13 years and was reported for having vicous dogs three times by on lady. I even had a vet that came out to my place and saw my dogs in person and changed his opinion of my dogs but not the breed. I breed for loyalty, color, temperment, size and all the breed regulations. I had great dogs but, there were still puppies that I had to choose the owner not the owner choosing the dog.
I will stick to my regular backyard type that is right for me. Thanks to everyone and lets just let this drop. They are just not for me. Later, Dave

It's also perfectly fine for people to sell game fowl and their eggs, the birds themselves are not illegal at all. You can put any two roosters together and they will fight, it's not limited to 'game' birds.

Think of it like dog fighting. It's not illegal to own a Doberman at all. What is illegal is when you place two Dobies in a pen and encourage them to fight and make bets on it.

Game fowl are exactly the same. They make great barnyard chickens, fantastic mothers and lay quite well for a non-production bird. They may even end up being your favorites
