What are those 'plastic' things on the sides of the chicken's heads?

They aren't the ears . . . the ears are little holes on each side of the head. Those are ear buds.

I don't know if it does anything . . . it may just be an ear lobe type thing. I wouldn't try piercing it, though.

oh, and my flock likes country music. I have a speaker ran outside the kitchen window pointed at the coop/yard area for them to listen to music...with their EARS.....maybe the buds make vibrations?
