If you don't want him to crow, you could get him a no crow collar, it doesn't hurt the Roo, only quiets their crow a lot

As far as I know It doesn't zap them. What it does is to put a slight pressure on the neck (along vocal cords) as the rooster is stretching his neck while crowing. It's just a Velcro wrap. There's nothing inhumane about it. It's a tool to muffle the crowing sound. You have to put it on right, not too loose, not too tight. I get the sound of a crowing collar doesn't sound all great but it's a good alternative to keep a backyard rooster. I was preparing myself to buy one for my suspected rooster but luckily my chicken was a pullet all along.
