Think about it... They came at the same time. The chicken was inside the egg.

The red jungle fowl, then the egg which hatched out a jungle fowl with desired traits that was bred to lay more eggs hatching out birds with desired traits, then more eggs, then eventually lines of birds considered to be domesticated chickens.

if you want to be technical about it the question always is "what came first, the chicken or the egg?"

everyone ASSUMES it says "which came first the chicken or the CHICKEN egg?"

it doesn't... so going by the original question it would have to be the egg since there were a lot of critters laying eggs before the first chicken ever showed it's beak

Egg because there had to be a rooster to fertilize the egg. Also, how could it have been incubated?

She wants to know if the chicken laid the egg or if the egg hatched the chicken
