I agree with 4-H chicken mom, but according to Jackie French's Chook Book, it's only the avacado leaves that hurt chickens. The fruit should be safe.

Don't hesitate to ask any questions on the forum, no matter how silly it may be.

Make sure you are feeding them a complete feed as their main staple for one....I have many customers tell me their chickens only eat scratch grains and wonder why they aren't super healthy...

Secondly, chickens are omnivorous. They will eat pretty much ANYTHING. They are pretty good about instinctively knowing what is bad for them in the yard as far as plants go, so I wouldn't worry too much there...as far as treating them, they LOVE mealworms and scratch grains, lettuces, chard and kale, all veggies and fruits, pizza, popcorn, potato chips, crackers, steak scraps....I wouldn't feed them anything too high in saturated fat, salt or sugar too often obviously. I have been told no raw potatoes, no apple cores or fruit pits, no chocolate, no raw eggs, they don't typically like citrus...that's all I can think off the top of my head...the feeding section has lists of like, everything.....I caught one of my hens running around playing keep away with a MOUSE in her beak once so....there ya go. Cheers.

My girls are 5 and 6 weeks old. My husband got them some ears of corn as a treat they are on starter pellets. I have not givin them any grit yet as they really do not need it now but I live down the street from my beach and I was just wondering if they can have sand instead of grit. When they get older I will give them oyster shell but it is my understanding that the pellets have everything they need right now.
