It's a gene that pretty much splits a comb in half. It's common seen in Polish chickens, but theirs is pure Duplex. Sicilian Buttercup chickens have the gene combined with single comb. What exactly does “duplex” mean

I'll read that tomorrow.Polish are pure for Duplex comb (D^V)
Sicilian Buttercups are pure for Duplex comb (D^C)
Chickens with a single comb are pure for non-Duplex comb (d+)
There are three alleles (forms of the gene) at that locus.

Assuming you're using this version of the calculator:I'll read that tomorrow.
Duplex Single combed is what Sicilian Buttercup have.
D^v/d+, r+/r+

Different Duplex mutation makes sense. Could've just said that.Assuming you're using this version of the calculator:
https://kippenjungle.nl/breeds/crossbreeds.html
If I select "Buttercup" as the breed in the list at the top of the page, it puts them in with D^v/D^v
But the calculator is missing the Buttercup allele. Yes, D^V/d+ can give a comb that looks like a Buttercup comb, but those are not the genes found in actual Sicilian Buttercups.
Reason one: Sicilian Buttercups breed true for comb type. They do not produce V-comb chicks and single comb chicks the way Blue chickens produce blacks and splashes. To breed true, they must be pure for whatever genes are producing their comb.
Reason two: the article I cited, that you said you'll read tomorrow.
Reason three: nicalandia said so. Link to a post that lays it out nicely:
https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...d-got-a-buttercup-comb.1529042/#post-25774346
So this is a case where the calculator is just plain wrong, because it is missing one allele at the duplex locus.
I did "just say that" last night.Different Duplex mutation makes sense. Could've just said that.
I woke up at 5am this morning. Apologies. Tired brain right now.I did "just say that" last night.
Then you repeated that Buttercups were V/single splits, and screenshotted the calculator as evidence.
So I tried again, saying it a few different ways and adding more sources.
