What could cause cocidiosis in chicks?

I have 4 adult chickens that I have had for over 3 years and never had a problem with their health. I got 4 new chicks this year and all of a sudden I have an outbreak of cocidiosis with them. I was wondering what could have caused this? We have trapped alot of opossums this year and a couple of raccoons but I don't think that would have changed anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated. All of the chickens are on medication.

It's because they're not used to the strains of coccidia in your environment while the others are.

The adult chickens are used to the coccidia already in your soil. The new chicks are not.

How do you know coccidiosis is the problem?

Is there any idea on how to get the 1 really affected by it to eat. I've tried wet food with the medicated water and nothing. She will drink but not eat.

Did you get the liquid Corid?

If so give it a few drops of straight Corid.

Powdered Corid dose is 1 1/2tsp powder to 1 gallon of drinking water given for 5-7 days in a row as the only source of drinking water.
Do not add any Extra supplements or vitamins that contain B1(Thiamine) to the water or feed during course of treatment.

Give the medicated water to all the new chicks.

For the one that is in the worst shape, give her a Direct Oral Drench. This is IN ADDITION to her drinking (or you syringing) the Mixed Corid Water into her throughout the day.

Direct Oral Drench, mix 1/2 teaspoon Corid Powder with 2 teaspoons of water. Give 0.35ml per pound of body weight orally 1-2 times a day for 3 days.
