What do you feed to molters?

Throughout their molting time, I feed my chickens more eggs than I usually do, and it seems to really help due to the protein. I also feed them cat food.

Wondering what treats/supplements you feed to your molting hens to help them out.

Mine are molting too. I bought new feed with 22% protein (meatbird feed, actually). I make them a warm mash with their feed crumbles and some scrambled (or boiled) eggs.

To help them through, I give meatbird feed to my heavy molters. Oyster shell on the side. Since it’s so cold out, I also moved my few heavy molters to their own space to allow them to regrow in peace.

I feed a 20% protein flock raiser feed year round (with calcium on the side) and don't need to do anything special for molters, growers, etc. It covers everybody's needs and the molters don't have any issues at all. They molt normally and their new feathers grow back quickly. Feed the right feed and you won't need to supplement.

Hi everyone,

Wondering what treats/supplements you feed to your molting hens to help them out. I have been giving mine sunflowers seeds and ACV in their water. What else should I give? Thanks in advance!

I buy Alfalfa pellets. Soak some in water over night and feed free will. I also feed Alfalfa wet pellets to my pigs in the fall as well. It puts so much hair on them for a winter coat. They look like Berkshire hippies lol.
