What do you feed your quail and chicken Chicks?

Hello everyone! I was curious, what do you all feed your chicks?

Quail chicks as well as chicken chicks.

I would usually feed my quail chicks 27% protein and I can’t get a hold of my usual chick crumb for the chicken chicks, so I was wondering if 27% would be too much for their kidneys to cope with?

27% is perfectly safe for chicken chicks. It's not until you get over 30% that you start having to worry about too much protein

How I do things nowadays is I feed 20% chick crumbles for their first few weeks and then gradually start mixing in 20% all flock pellets (kalmbach flock raiser pellets. Yes, it's technically a grower but it's nutritionally about the same). Once they are eating the pellets reliably I stop with the chick crumbles. Granted, the way I do things is because I like to go for an early integration and I cannot stand crumbles due to how much gets wasted. This way everyone can eat the same feed and get the nutrition they need (the layers have oyster shell available on the side so they get the calcium they need)
