What do you like to forage? Calling all foragers!

By which I mean, after shelling the nuts I wrapped them up in a cheesecloth bag and put them in the back of the toilet (to be clear - the part with the float and all the mechanical bits) for about a week. Fair warning, it did temporarily turn the water in the bowl light tan.

Did it stain the porcelain? I'd be worried that the color would be permanent. Great idea! I would never have thought of that.

Not permanently, but I did have to clean it afterwards. If you try it I will also warn to be careful where in the back you place the bag so it doesn’t knock the mechanisms out of alignment. I ran into some issues with that.

My cousin is big on mushroom foraging. I've went a few times with him but didn't find anything. He's given me morels and pheasantback he's found and they were delicious (I turned the pheasantback into a creamy soup)

I don't forage too often but here is my list:

• Dandelions: Flowers and roots make great tea. I went to a Fresh Thyme grocery and saw dandelion leaves in the veggie section and found it amusing since its free everywhere
• Crabapples: I like them raw but my absolute best batch of homebrew (alcohol) was a crabapple cider that fermented a bit more in the bottle and became carbonated
• Sumac berries: Harvested after a dry week, soak them in water and they make a nice pink tea that tastes like lemonade
• Chicory root: Clean, dice and roast the roots in an oven or air fryer, then grind them. They make a great caffeine-free coffee substitute
• Common yellow woodsorrel: Make a great lemon tea, its also a nice garnish for salads or gazpacho
• Walnuts: general eating, I'll crack them open outside with my chickens using rocks and eat the big morsels and feed the bits to curious chickens. If the walnuts are rotted i'll break the flesh up for my chickens since there is an abundance of grubs inside
• Blackberries: self explanatory
• Spring onions: self explanatory
