I have an egg that has a nice size hole in it but has not finished hatching. It has stayed the same size since 11:00 this morning. It sure does alot of cheeping. What does shrink wrap look like?

edit: it hatched

Give eggs at least 24 hours to make it on their own if not more. Shrink wrap is juts a term people use to describe what happens to the chicks when you open the bator during the hatch after a pip and the loss of humidity causes the membrane to dry out and "shrink wrap" the chick.

The others have answered the what does it look like question, but I'd like to add that it can take 24 hours from pip to hatch. That is totaly normal and the chick will take naps and be quiet during that time too so don't freak out if you can't hear it cheeping. You do not want to start thinking that something is wrong and try to *help* or you will probably see what shrink wrapping looks like first hand--if you don't hit a blood vessel that hasn't dried up first. It can be stressfull the first time you hatch chicks, but it really is best to practice a hands off approach.

Happy hatching!

Congrats!!! my last hatch I made the mistake of opening my bator to help a chick that was shrink wrapped, that chick died and also I ended up losing more because they got shrink wrapped when I opened the bator.
