I recently rescued a young duck (hopefully a hen), and I'm curious to know her mix. Crested? She's so sweet!

Do you have a better picture of her from the side without water? I am not seeing the Runner in her. Maybe if you show a different angle? She looks built more like a Pekin than a Runner from what I can see here. More pictures! :)

You're right. I was thinking Runner because of how she walked, but now looking at pics of Crested, they do have those vertical bodies too. So maybe Crested and Pekin?

I could be wrong, but crested isn't a breed, it's a genetic mutation in any breed. Does anyone know a better way to explain?

Looks like a white crested to me. So there is a breed that is called a crested and crested ducks also happen in every breed. She does not look like a runner at all to me. Does she have a buddy? So sweet that you rescued her. If you don't have another duck she/he really needs duck company. Here is a link on raising ducks since they have different needs than chickens. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/750869/raising-and-caring-for-ducklings#post_10611711
And here is a great link on sexing http://www.majesticwaterfowl.org/artquacks.htm

Cool thanks! I've been doing research on ducks for a few months now and know that ducks need buddies. I planned on getting several ducks at once (in the future), but this was kind of an urgent rescue. She seems really content! But I will be looking for another duck soon. I guess the person that raised her just kept her in the house from birth and never took good care of her

. She seems really happy and relaxed now. I have a really big coop that can house 24 chickens, but I only have 8 pullets and a bunny who has his own separate coop but all the animals have free range to go in and out of the big coop during the day within the fenced chicken run. The bunny and my "chicken little" are best friends, and the duck seems to be getting along with everyone too. They are all rescues :)

Very cute and I'm glad that you have done your homework. I just like to put it out there since a lot of people don't know that. What a wonderful little rescue farm you have going.

Can't resist... White Crested (Tevye) for identification purposes (at various ages).
