So, I’ve always been interested in genetics and how it works and my horse and my trainer’s horses are the perfect place for me to look. My horse and his family have something called a dilution, not something uncommon in horses, almost every single alkal Teke has one. The dilution these horses have is called a champagne dilution and it’s pretty rare. There are several versions of the dilution and each have their own name (classic, gold, amber, sabble etc). Without this dilution all these horses would be bay. Even still my horse’s sire is only has a 50% chance of passing down the dilution.

My horse’s sire: Magon (classic champagne)

My horse’s dam: Andy (amber champagne)

My horse: Storm (amber champagne) (this is an older picture, he refuses to let me get a good picture of him so I have to get someone to take them when we’re working)
Now I want to throw this girl in here.

My horse’s sister (one of many siblings): Daylily (100% amber champagne) she is one of the only goals that is a 100% champagne. Cute right?

My horse’s half sister: Gigi the Giraffe (classic champagne) she is only five and is 18 hands... she’s a giant.

Wow! 18 hands! What breed? I did own a Champagne Quarter Horse for awhile but sold her to a lady in California that really wanted her because of her unique color. I also currently own a chestnut Rabicano Thoroughbred so I've always been interested in slightly more unique coloring. Someday I would love to own an Isabella colored Lusitano. My absolute favorite breed of horse however can only be registered in the studbook in one color, black. So go figure! LOL!

Oh man that’s tough! They’re technically registered as American warmbloods, but their specific breeds are a little more fun. Magon’s a Holsteiner Creme draft cross, Andy’s an Andalusian Creme draft cross, Storm and Daylily are well...all that XD. Gigi is the Holsteiner Creme draft but her dam was full Hanoverian.

Very cool! The Andalusian is known to have some color genes. And breeders lately have been really amping up the color production. I remember when having a bay Andalusian was a big deal (and black even more rare), now they have cremello, palomino and chestnut!

So do you like any other colors or is champagne your dream color?

Well before coming to this trainer years ago, I didn’t even know champagne existed! Before then, my dream horse was a black thoroughbred. I do tend to lean towards the more shiny colors, like some chestnuts look very flat and I used to ride this quarter horse who shined in the sun and looked like copper! I also love any patterns and such...who am I kidding I love any color!
