I have a few showgirls for sale on Craigslist. I got an e-mail (darnit, forgot to hide my e-mail address) asking:

"do you have photos of the show girls? what 'f' generation are they?"

I have no idea what 'f' generation is...at all! Could someone explain this to me, please?

F1 would be first generation meaning the parent is one turken and one silkie, F2 would be showgirl to showgirl. F3 would be the generation after that and so on. I'm not sure what generation you would call a showgirl crossed back to a silkie....I need more coffee to reactivaate my brain.

Showgirls are often bred back to silkies. Typically if one were REcreating them, one would not breed back to a turken after the first cross, and would avoid breeding to other showgirls until silkie traits are reestablished. A good showgirl should be many generations in--to the point that most serious breeders are probably no longer keeping records, I would think, but I am not a showgirl breeder. I do know that if I wanted one, I would expect it to look entirely like a quality silkie except for the naked neck.

Thank you! Now I at least know what the heck 'f' generation means, haha. Honestly, I'm not really a big fan of the Showgirls (nothing against them, I just prefer the 'normal' Silkies). On one side, I just want to sell them and not deal with the chicks, but on the other side...I spent a lot of time growing the little boogers up, haha! Ah, the dilemma of chickens!
