My dog is due to come in heat in a couple weeks and I don't want to have a mess like the last two times or have to smell the blood again. We would like to get her bred which we tried last time but she didn't take. Last time I bought some boys briefs but she got them off.

I was thinking about buying a dog diaper off ebay but was wondering if anyone else knew of anything better. I'm worried the item won't get here in time just incase she starts early. I don't want to spend a ton of money for something to cover her butt. I can buy one for $13 off ebay.

I thought about buying some kids swimming pull ups but don't know what size to buy. She is 23" around the waist in front of her back legs and about 49lbs.

Many people down here use pull ups for dogs in heat. I think the bag has size dimensions on the back now but I'm not for sure

Thanks for the information.

I was thinking if I had to I might be able to buy some suspenders to help keep it on her. Luckily I don't have to cut a tail hole since she has one of those weird tails that barely sticks out.

What I used to do when my girl was intact (GSD), I took an old pair of pajama pants (ones with a drawstring), cut part of the legs off and made a tail hole. Then put a pad in the pajama bottoms and put them on, the drawstring kept them on nicely. Very cheap and effective imo. It looks pretty hilarious

I may have to try that.

My dog can't reach her butt but she usually tries to scoot to get something off. She would probably be less messy if she could reach her butt. I don't know if it is cause of her being a bulldog or not but she bleeds and smells more than what my SIL's golden retriever did.

I have had luck with a one piece swimming suit over the briefs... put it on her backwards so that the intended chest area is on her back. Make sure it is really low cut in the thigh area or it won't cover her bits enough.

With my girl, I use the boy's briefs with a pad, upside down so that the pee-pee hole has her tail nubby sticking out. She doesn't like them but if I stretch out the leg holes before putting them on her she doesn't fuss nearly as much.

If you use briefs that are too big they come off far easier than those correctly fitted. My girl has huge thighs and is a super lean 115 pounds and she still only needs a boy's large.

I could definitely see the one piece swimsuit working.

but the problem with using briefs though is that if your dog is a butt scooter (like the OP) or a tugger they will slip right off. With the pajama pants, the drawstring gets tied snug around their midsection, so even when they attempt to maneuver it, it won't slip over.
