What is going on with this egg

I went out to collect the eggs this morning as I knew one of my ducks weren't laying in the nesting boxes. I found this egg and I am so confused. It is a normal egg with a second membrane attached to the outside of the egg. There is even what seems to be some fluid that feels like the white of an egg that is slightly stuck between the membrane and the actual egg. Has anyone got any ideas of why this has happened?

I have never seen anything like this! I hope you can figure it out

I'd say that is exactly what it is.
Anti-peristalsis.
Shelled egg backed up and got another round of albumen and membrane.

I think Aart is right. The egg was ready to be laid but for whatever reason it was sucked back up into the shell gland and some more egg white and a membrane were produced. Often when this happens a totally new shell is put on around the first egg. This is rare but it can happen.

I don't know what caused the egg to not be laid when it was first ready. Maybe a predator scare or drama within the flock. I'd consider it an oops and not worry about it as long as it is not a regular occurrence. I think we are all entitled to an occasional oops. But if it becomes a regular occurrence then it is a problem in how your duck is set up internally. I'd never hatch one of her eggs as it might be hereditary.

That may explain why she did not lay when you thought she should. One of the signals for their body to release a yolk to start creating another egg is to lay an egg. If she did not lay that egg then that signal was not received. But I would not expect that to cause a problem for more than another day or so.

Can someone also give me any idea why my chooks lay different coloured eggs, sometimes they lay a pale cream coloured and then other days the eggs are a dark tan colour
